A new classified assessment about the origins of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic from the Department of Energy—that oversees our national laboratories—recently was leaked to the public. That assessment, supposedly based on "new intelligence," concludes "with low confidence" that the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic likely originated from an accidental lab leak in China. Inexplicably, however, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, in the combined judgment of the overall U.S. Intelligence Community (IC), still holds that the pandemic was not the result of a Chinese bioweapons program. Why to this day the U.S. IC refuses to acknowledge or deal with the massive Chinese Communist Party (CCP) – People's Liberation Army (PLA) civilian-military fusion model for the People's Republic of China's offensive Biological Weapons (BW) program is not only inexplicable, but deeply troubling.
There is extensive open-source information available to one and all with Internet access about China's BW program, its myriad labs both civilian and military, and its malign intent to incorporate biological warfare into its military warfighting doctrine (see "Unrestricted Warfare: China's Master Plan to Destroy America"). At points in the past, even the U.S. government (USG) seemed to understand this. For example, in the January 2001 Department of Defense (DoD) report, "Proliferation: Threat and Response", the Pentagon noted that "China is believed to possess an offensive biological warfare capability based on technology developed prior to its accession to the BWC in 1984". Absent any readily found update on this report, what exactly does DoD think happened to that program in the ensuing 22 years? Dissolved for lack of interest?
As I wrote in my Newsmax blog post from 11 May 2020, Dany Shoham, a former Israeli military intelligence official who holds a doctorate in medical microbiology and currently works at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar Ilan University in Israel, has published extensively on Chinese BW capabilities and extensive lab network. "In April 2015, Shoham published a study in the Journal of Defense Studies titled "China's Biological Warfare Programme: An Integrative Study with Special Reference to Biological Weapons Capabilities." Again, from my Newsmax blog post, "[Shoham's] study profiled China's BW program with special reference to its capabilities in defense and military establishments. The study concluded that Beijing has '12 facilities affiliated with the defence establishment, plus 30 facilities affiliated with the PLA, that are involved in research, development, production, testing or storage of BW.'" In the U.S. IC's search for answers about the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, no one to date has been able to locate Dany Shoham's excellent open source research? Perhaps the hyperlink here might be of assistance.
There is much more open-source information available on this, in addition to what one can only hope classified reporting from the U.S. IC may hold. This belated admission from the Department of Energy that the SARS-CoV-2 just may have somehow emerged – by accident – from a Chinese lab (perhaps the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where the USG helped fund Gain-of-Function research then banned at home) is welcome, but still dodges the entire issue of China's BW program, which is still aimed directly at the United States. If any doubts remain, we may refer to Jeff Nyquist's 11 September 2019 posting of "The Secret Speech of General Chi Haotian," in which the former Chinese Defense Minister spoke in stark terms about how the CCP regime views the U.S.: "The relationship between China and the United States is one of life-and-death struggle." Although China's demographic situation has changed drastically in recent years (due to the draconian one-child policy and massive female infanticide), in 2003 when this speech was given, Beijing was seeking "lebensraum" (yes, Haotian used the German term) for its huge population. The solution, he said, was to "clean up America" by using "non-destructive weapons that can kill many people" so that China would "be able to reserve America for ourselves". The solution, according to General Chi Haotian? Biological weapons. And remember, he was speaking in 2003.
As the various Republican-led committees in the House of Representatives begin to hold their long-promised hearings on China, the CCP, and the origins of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, it is to be hoped that their investigations will delve into more than simply which lab the virus likely escaped from. To hold the CCP properly to account for the massive devastation in lives and livelihoods that its bioweapon inflicted on the entire world, it is necessary to thoroughly expose China's advanced, sophisticated, sprawling offensive Biological Weapons program.
